* Autumn Show 2013 *
The Autumn Show held on Sunday 20th October at Boughton-under-Blean Village Hall attracted a good entry of 350, comprising 254 birds and 95 plates of eggs and photos.
Our judges were Mr Matthew Barrett from North Wales and Mr Charles Pears from Tunbridge Wells, who very kindly stepped in when Mr M Chapman was unable to attend due to illness in the family.
We had a good team to set up and many exhibitors helped with dismantling at the end of the show for which we are immensely grateful. A huge thank you to the kitchen staff, who went above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks also to the youngsters selling raffle tickets. Best in Show was Christine and Simon Fuller with a very fit O.E.G. Well done to you both for your first Show Champion, Christine said she had learnt a lot at the Box Show that was held a few weeks earlier which helped her choose and prepare her bird for the day !!

Judges report from Matthew Barrett
Firstly I would like to say thank you so much for inviting me to judge at Kent show.
Really good birds and out standing place and venue, a very friendly group all helping put up and getting together on the day this is what you call a CLUB AND SHOW! The birds where in great condition for the time of year and the young stock classes I saw where really well supported. The S/F, True, Waterfowl and Rare breeds were good. There were a number of different breeds on show to the public and myself as the judge and the other judge Charles Pears.
My choice of Best Hard Feather Bantam was a lovely and great type of Bantam Old English Game female.
This bird when I walked into the room, I could see straight away, had good balance and with great pen training she really did look the part. Well done to the owners. Best Bantam s/f heavy was the Orpington and she really looked nice. Best Bantam s/f light was the Appenzeller female, lovely type. Best Large s/f was a Wyandotte male. Best Rare was the Vorwerk male. Best True Dutch bantam f. Best Juvenile was a lovely marked Gold Dutch female. Best Trio where the large white Sussex trio!
The B and B where we stayed was fab and the great couple that owned it really warming and welcoming. We wished that we could have stayed there again on Sunday eve!
On the whole I really enjoyed judging the birds and I really can say this…….
THE BIRDS THAT WHERE ON TOP ROW I COULD HAVE TAKEN THEM HOME WITH ME, AND I KNOW FOR CERTAIN MY MUM WHO SHOWS WITH ME WOULD LOVE THEM TOO.
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY WELL DONE TO EVERYONE AND KEEP BREEDING THE FABULOUS BIRDS THAT YOU HAD THERE!
I will see you all at the National and hope your birds shine in the pens and do their best again!
