** Beech Court Open Day 2012 **

The Poultry and Smallholder Open Day was a great success with an estimated 300 visitors…. so much for a low key, quiet day ! Unfortunately we had to drop the poultry dispatching section from the format due to Trading Standards implications, we will try to arrange another time and location for this if we receive enough interest from our members.

Fred Hams’ book signing was very popular with 58 copies snapped up. Unfortunately the copy that Fred was saving with contributor’s signatures was taken by mistake. Fred would be pleased to have it returned and a new signed copy issued in it’s place.

We were delighted to see some of our members travelling from as far away as Wiltshire and Hampshire to share the day with us.

We invited Kent Smallholders Club, Hilltop Spinners and Weavers and The Cheesemakers of Canterbury to join us which made for a varied and interesting combination of stalls. Thank you to all of them for supporting the event. From the messages received they all enjoyed themselves and were very popular with the visitors.

Our hosts at Beech Court were thrilled and somewhat taken by surprise with the sheer numbers that turned up and also the amount of interest and enthusiasm that our club and poultry keeping currently attracts.

We would like to thank Mr. V. Harmsworth and Mrs. P. Miller-Thomas for allowing us to stage our Open Day in such a lovely setting. We would also like to say a big thank you to the ladies…. and lads! in the Beech Court Tea Room who did such an amazing job keeping everyone supplied with refreshments.
