** Spring Show 2011 **
The Kent Poultry Club staged a Spring Open Show on Sunday 13th February at Boughton – under – Blean Village Hall. The hall was an ideal venue with excellent natural daylight and good catering facilities much appreciated by both Exhibitors and visitors to the show. An entry of just under 300 exhibits made up by a verity of large fowl, Bantams, Ducks Etc. on show with completion in all classes.
The quality and condition of the birds was very good and provided much interest to the many visitors including newcomers visiting a show for the first time and interested in poultry. Bantams formed the largest number of exhibits with True Bantams being very predominant providing good classes in numbers. Waterfowl were evident in reasonable numbers with Call Ducks creating much interest and of excellent standard.
A very nice Black Rosecomb (S&C Fuller) won best in show with a Malay (T&N Gunning) reserve Champion. and a trio of Silver Sebrights (C Edmonds) Best Trio.
A good day was enjoyed by all, hard work by those in the catering section and many members assisting the Committee to make the show a success both beforehand and after the show finished. P.Hinton
May I add my congratulations to all the prize winners at our recent Spring Voucher Show and thanks to all exhibitors for supporting our show.
Personally I would like to thank the committee and helpers for the excellent job of staging the show and special thank you to Steve Fuller and Tracey Gunning for their help during the weekend.
Thanks must also go to our judges for officiating, they were however disappointed with the amount of birds being shown suffering from mites & lice. This isn’t fair on the judges or other exhibitors. They did express their appreciation however for a wonderful lunch. So please in the future make sure your birds are free from parasites when presented for judging.
As you will see from our diary the committee is full of enthusiasm and we hope our members will enjoy and participate in as many events as possible in 2011.
I look forward to meeting many of you during the summer. L Mew Chair
