** Spring Regional Show **
Our Spring Regional Show was held on February 8th and attracted another bumper entry.
We were delighted to welcome our judges for the day, Mr K Brown, Mr J Dwight and Mr S Harvey.
Thank you to all the exhibitors who continue to support us and travel from far and wide to attend.
A huge thank you to the team in the kitchen . Also to those who helped with the set up and take down.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
** Judge Report by Jed Dwight **
It was a great pleasure to be asked to judge for the second time at one of the fantastic shows put on by Kent Poultry Club which are known throughout the country for running like clockwork.
After a good nights sleep (I had had a busy day judging at Surrey the day before) I was up and ready to do it all again, and having eaten a fantastic breakfast, myself and my two judging companions, Simon Harvey and Kevin Brown made our way to the show.
On arrival we were greeted by none other than the lady herself (Lorna of course!) and were plied with tea and coffee. With a good entry before us we wasted no time and got to work. I had the Junior, Juvenile, Waterfowl and Egg classes to judge, as well as the clubs shows for the Sussex, Scots Dumpy and Call Duck Clubs, which all had some very good exhibits within them.
Judging completed I took my winners up to Championship Row, choosing OEG bantams for both Best Juvenile and Best Junior. Each of them were incredibly fit, well turned out and good examples of the breed, particularly the Junior exhibit which both myself and my judging companions rated very highly. I then chose a Mallard Call female as Best Waterfowl, she was a very good example of what is a difficult breed to perfect.
Having judged the Sussex Club show I spoke with Simon, who had judged the other SFH bantam classes, and we discussed the merits and faults of each of the potential winners, deciding that the winning Light Sussex female, exhibited by Richard Roff, should take it’s place on Championship Row as Best SFH bantam. Finally I put my Best Egg exhibit, a very tidy single Mottled Brown bantam egg forward. With all of our winners now on Championship Row it was time to decide the Champion and Reserve.
Kevin won’t mind me saying that he’s not overly keen on ducks , however, unfortunately for him, I was insistent that this is one of the best Calls I’ve ever had the pleasure of judging, and felt it easily deserved to go up. Simon agreed with me, and so she was made Show Champion.
Congratulations to her exhibitor Val Kitt.
Reserve Show Champion was then awarded to a very showy, fit large Modern Game female exhibited in excellent condition by John Pummell.
All three of us, together with others at the show agreed that it was a very good eventual line up on Championship Row, and as a Club this is something Kent can be very proud of.
Thanks again for asking me to judge this show, congratulations to all of the winners, and to all of those that put so much work into making things run so smoothly.
